OverDraft Protection

New Federal Banking Regulations that took effect on August 15, 2010 require that Chemical Bank receive your authorization to pay overdrafts on your ATM and everyday debit card transactions. Prior to these changes, Chemical Bank provided Overdraft Protection as a courtesy to eligible Chemical Bank account holders. We must now receive your authorization to pay overdrafts on ATM and everyday Debit Card transactions.

We want to provide you with the protection you need to avoid mistakes that may overdraw your account, so that you can avoid the inconvenience of being unable to withdraw cash from an ATM or make a purchase in the event of emergency.

Chemical Bank has partnered with our trusted partner Deluxe® to assist us with reaching our customers who have not enrolled in overdraft protection and help them understand their overdraft protection. To simplify the enrollment process, eligible customers of Chemical Bank may choose to maintain their Overdraft Protection while speaking to a Customer Service Representative from Deluxe®, or by contacting our Customer Support Center at 1-800-867-9757.

What You Need to Know about Overdraft and Overdraft Fees.

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway.

We can cover your overdrafts in the following way:

We have standard overdraft practices that come with your account.

We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments

We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you authorize us to do so:

  • ATM transactions
  • Everyday debit card transactions

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction.

If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What fees will I be charged if Chemical Bank pays my overdraft?

    Under our standard overdraft practices:

  • We will charge you a fee of up to $31 each time we pay an overdraft
